I know what you’re thinking! “The Comedy Episode? Sean, they’re all comedy episodes, aren’t they?”

That’s true! But what’s different about this one is that we’re joined by some guests who make it bona fide.

On this edition of the show, we’re joined by Canadian Comedy Award nominees Josh Saltzman & Lindsay Ames. They’re here to show off a couple of their latest and greatest comedy videos, and talk a lot of shit about the news, comedy, and living in Los Angeles.

Last weekend’s show was so crazy.  I arrived to the studio and discovered that my crew had been eaten by monsters and I was going to be alone in putting on a show.  A couple of Harth TV’s peeps, Michelle and Victor, came in and tied a show together out of popsicle sticks and gum, and we were able to put on a show!

This weekend’s guest was Los Angeles comedian Little Esther, sitting on the panel via Skype.

We had taken the previous week off so in order to be able to know what were the issues of the day, we took to the streets to ask people “What’s Going On In The World?”

This commercial features the music of Chromeo (one of my favorite bands) and an appearance by Sergio Cilli from Infomania on Current.com (one of my favorite shows) so I was kind of geeking out over it when I first saw this thing. And Chromeo at the centre of it? Canada represent!

Can you imagine if you had a metal roof?  A metal roof on your structure.

For a minute I was going to fly up to San Francisco, but then I thought that once you account for checking in on the Departures side and disembarking and waiting for luggage on the arrivals end, I don’t think I would actually save any time. And seeing the California countryside is something I wanted to do. Getting a drive sounded like the more luxuriant option.

Originally I was thinking about heading up to San Francisco on Thursday or Friday but I got a ride offered to me on Tuesday and had to take it! Just some dude from Craiglist responding to my ad about “Hey, who’s got room for me in their vehicle?”

The reality ended up being very different.

Got a little snack at Jack in the Box (saving the consumption of a meal for the best fast food place in the world! Wait for it…)

So what do you think we’re doing with the car unloaded at the side of the highway?

Busted tire! But Joe fixed it in record time.

And then we stopped for a late lunch at the best fast food place in the world. Now, I am a serious connoisseur of fast food burgers. I have had many tasty fast food burgers in my time.

But the best fast food burger is In-N-Out. Hands down. At home, it’s the Burger King Whopper. But from all over, In-N-Out is what’s ’bout it.

After that business with the tire falling apart, you’ll never guess what happened down the road.

A blown out tire. Dude had to drive a mile on the metal to get to a service station, where we waited an hour and a half for a mechanic to show and put a new tire on. It’s cool, it was a neat spot. I mostly just sat on a rock and read.

It was a long drive, but I made it safe and sound. Last night we went out a little bit and today was a big day of walking around. I’ll post pics from all that tonight. Right now we’re going to watch 60s Spider-Man cartoons and start to think about dinner.

I’m sitting here drinking Arnold Palmer Half & Half Iced Tea Lemonade, taking a break from an illustration job. It’s Sunday, and it’s Easter, but I need to work because it’s a big job, my deadline is Tuesday, and I didn’t bring my scanner down here to California with me so a big part of the day tomorrow is going to be about going to a copy shop or something to get the drawings scanned, and then coloring them tomorrow night.

The place I’m staying at belongs to a movie director who is on vacation.  He’s in the Academy so his place is loaded with Academy screeners of tons of movies I want to see.  Score!

This is the front of the house I’m livin’ in. The stairs up to the door are just below the lower border, going up and to the left:

When I first moved in, this book was one of the first things I saw. A photography book by Michael Madsen, with one of the most recognizable building facades from home on the cover???

Kickin’ it on the 3rd Street Promenade. 3rd Street is closed to cars for a three block stretch where it’s a pedestrian-only area with shops all along it on both sides like a regular street, except with fountains and newstands in the middle of it.

I love all of the old signs on the buildings down there, juxtaposed with the ultra-modern architecture beside and across the street from them.

The Santa Monica pier!  I rode that Ferris Wheel with Elayne the one night I had in L.A. before I got on the ship back in November!

This Bay Street is a little bit different than the one in Toronto, which is all about the skyscrapers and business people!

I went to the church in this picture for Sunday Service today. I don’t know anything about what denominations mean, I just saw a church in the neighborhood and went to it. It was a Methodist Episcopal church and it was one of those ones like in the movies where everyone sings almost everything they say and the congregation gets super into it, shouting and putting their hands in the air. Almost everyone in the little church came up to me before or after the service to say hello and ask me where I’m from. One of the ushers told me that the church welcomes me with open arms, and gave me an egg for Easter!

On my way out I was offered a lollipop and when I picked a blue one, I noticed that it was in the shape of a cross. I wasn’t too sure what to think about that, but my confusion at it did not stop me from eating it.

On my way out the door, I was looking for my glasses and smacked my head on the edge of a shelf. I didn’t realize I had cut myself until we were half way there.

This my friend Liz. She is well familiar with this place.

In her glovebox, when I went looking for tissues for my forehead, I discovered that her glovebox is filled to bursting with Disney themed antenna toppers.

The Observatory and Park are popular and famous movie locations.  They filmed scenes from Rebel Without a Cause here, and erected this tribute to it’s star.  Many years ago, Rebel Without a Cause was on TV but I couldn’t watch it because my Auntie was a fan of The Drew Carey Show and that was on at the same time.  I was a big snob about it and said that to watch Drew Carey instead of Rebel Without a Cause is a sign of no class nor intelligence.

It really is true what they say about the colors in the sky at dusk in Los Angeles. And it is spectacularly gorgeous. And from what I’ve been told, Griffith Park offers the best view of it you can get.

Recognize this, Strokes fans?

It was way too dark inside where the telescope is to have taken a picture of it, but we got to see a super-magnified close up view of Saturn. Seriously, you could see the rings and everything. It was amazing. This was not that telescope.

I am really into Astronomy and Physics so this was the best thing I have seen or done in Los Angeles so far. Thanks for showing it to me, Liz!

So Sean was walking along Sunset Boulevard with Tony one sunny afternoon when he had to stop and set his purchases from Meltdown Comics upon a ledge to allow the full flow of the bolt of inspiration that had just overtaken him.

He told Tony about how he had been thinking ahead to the second issue of SuperParty. He had all of the characters in place, but he was missing the emotional core of the story. And that emotional core had just hit him like a pan in the face, springing out of a conversation he and Tony were having about Batman.

When Sean triumphantly looked up, the above picture was his view: the Hollywood sign perfectly framed between those two trees, with the Sunset Blvd. sign in front of it. Is that a perfect composition or what?

And hopefully a perfect omen.

When Sean had seen the Hollywood sign for the first time earlier that day, he did not take a picture of it. He was going to save the moment just for himself. But when he saw it for the second time, so perfectly framed, he knew he had to capture it.

After the show, I decided to go for a little stroll to see the sights and I got terribly lost in Beverly Hills! I was wandering around for ages trying to figure out how to get out of there. Beverly Hills is like Rosedale in Toronto, in that the streets are all designed to keep the place from being used as a traffic thoroughfare by twisting the streets every which way. And then it’s about a hundred times the size!
