The most fun stuff in the convention:

The costumes were awesome, like they always are at these things. But Montreal got super creative!

Damn the guy who took this picture of me and Supergirl – you don’t get to see how she was wearing red high heels instead of boots.

I spent the whole weekend buying these Tokidoki Marvel figurines:

And traded four of them to get the one that I started out going for in the first place, Spider-Man.

My weekend in Montreal was just the spirit food and escape that I needed, and it wasn’t all business.  On the Sunday night after the convention I finally got some time to step on the town with old friends and do it up right.

Tasha knew where the party was at.  I don’t know what the deal was, it was a dark hole in the wall of a bar and there were no beer logos on display, but there was a girl in a big wood chair up high like a lifeguard, pouring cups of beer for everyone.

The beer ran out, the party got loud, and the cops showed up.

The usual way people would do this is to stay in a hotel.  I like to use the internet to find a place to stay.  I made my weekend residence in a palace, hosted by the 3rd generation owner of a Montreal-region fast food chain. I got to see Montreal from the point of view of someone who grew up in the city, had a ton of fun, got to link up with old friends who live there now, and generally have a blast for very little money. Sometimes I feel like my life has turned into an interpretation of the Tim Ferriss lifestyle of the ‘New Rich’.

We got everyone up on stage for rousing round of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, to the accompaniment of an extremely drunken Corey taking turns with an extremely drunken Jesse shouting “Hannukah!!!” into a microphone.  That was followed by Raymi jumping on the drums and rockin’ her solo skills, and finally Joey “AccordionGuy” DeVilla brought his accordion on stage to deliver a rousing round of a certain Cee-Lo Green song with a swear word in the title.

Thanks to everyone for coming! We raised a little over $300 just from donations at the door for War Child Canada.  I’ll put up a video of going to see them after everyone’s back from the Christmas & New Year’s break.

The Guide to Social Media Success was earlier this evening as I write this, and I am over-the-moon excited. It could not have gone any better. The very first Blog Stars event was a smashing success all the way around.  Thank you to Raymi and Casie for being on the bill with me, and to Carly-Anne at The Fairlie Agency for putting it together.  Extra special thanks to Carly for being visionary enough to gather this motley collection of personality bloggers and giving it a name!

I am so so so touched that so many people came and got so much out of our event. Thank you all so much for your tweets during my presentation! Carly was at the back watching the #blogstars hashtag throughout the night, but Raymi and Casie and I didn’t get to see those tweets until we went to eat after. I was stunned silent by the outpouring of support and appreciation. Silent! Me! Mr. Always-On!

Thank you so much to everyone in attendance!  You gave us a night to remember!

One thing that I got a little bit known for ’round the way in San Francisco was drawing pictures of people. Not caricatures, but ‘custom cartoon portraits’.

One Friday afternoon, I carried a card table and a kitchen chair to the corner at Washington & Polk advertising “Free Cartoon Portraits”. While I waited for takers, I drew a few demo drawings to post as billboards.
