President-Elect Barack Obama

Barack Obama wins the 2008 US Presidential Election

Good one, America.  President-Elect Barack Obama.  We’re all very proud of you.

First of all, you put up two really great candidates.  Obama-maniacs went nuts like the world was going to come to an end if McCain had been elected, but everyone forgot about how he was such a darling of the media in the recent past on account of his ‘maverick’ status.  The poor guy got it in his head that he needed Bush’s crowd behind him to win, and started losing himself trying to woo them.  But the whole world is lucky for the fact that no matter who won, there would have been a good president.

Second, there was none of the nastiness that typically characterizes your elections.  I am more media-saturated than I have ever been, and I saw almost no really ugly attack ads until the last week or so.  There was definitely nothing like the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth or whatever they were called in 2004.  Both John McCain and Barack Obama conducted themselves well and the campaign mostly brought out the best in everyone.

And finally, you made the right decision.  Your election of Barack Obama was throwing in with the future.  A few haters have commented that people from around the world have no place taking any pride in Obama’s election.  But if we’re all going to come together and say “We’re all Americans now” in a moment of tragedy, why not for something positive?

We’ll be watching you for the next four years with great interest and enthusiasm.

And now enjoy a little ditty from Lee Dorsey!

    CHANGE!

  • Rebecca

I agree! We are alive for the most significant event in the US since 9-11. We will watch history unfold over the next 4 years, and no matter what happens Americans can be proud that they stood up for what they believe in and voted in record numbers. I think for the first time in almost 50 years Americans got the chance to vote for a candidate that they could believe in. Whether or not individuals voted Democrat or Republican, they were voting for change and a person that inspired them. I'm very excited for America and a little envious that the great Red, White & Blue has the chance to reinvent herself. Well done America. Your global approval rated jumped a million points overnight.

You've already heard my opinion about this guy. I just wanted to tell you I respect and admire your optimism. I, unfortunately, live in the real world and am aware of Obama's real agenda which has nothing to do with Americans and their freedom. Obama only cares about Obama. Just keep a close eye on what kind of so called “changes” the Democrats really make and you'll finally “wake up” and realize that voting for Republicrats or Demicans is just like choosing your executioner. Cynthia McKinney was the real change America needed and still needs. Her or Ralph Nader.

Do you think that he's going to continue to use the internet to keep the government transparent the way he did with his campaign?

    oh nice one!

It's remarkable how “enfranchised” black people are feeling all of a sudden, and wonderful to see them out and proud. I could hardly believe my eyes Friday seeing three tables of black folk at the Sushi restaurant, where I have never seen a black person before! No kidding! I predict a sharp drop in the crime stats and our black brothers come to realize that they can make it in whitey's world. It's all good.
