Happy Canadian Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

This weekend is Thanksgiving (Canadian Thanksgiving, so don’t all of my American friends get confused).  In my family we have a tradition where we go around the table during dinner and everyone expresses what they are thankful for this year.

Here are a few things I’m thankful for this year.

  • All of you – I am thankful for everyone who comes and visits this website, watches my movies, and reads my comics.  You’re why I do it.
  • Friends – it has been incredible to see the success that friends are starting to have.  We almost never get to see each other any more as it is, and it’s going to be way crazier next year since they’re only going up from here.  I am thankful for them for all the good times we have when we do get together, and I’m thankful that I get to be front row for the show that is their blowing up.  And even my peoplezz  who aren’t in bands or on TV, I am just lucky as hell to have an awesome collection of people in my life.
  • Family – I have a very… let’s call it ‘colorful’ family history but we have made strides over many years and this year was the one when we finally crossed into a new relationship on both sides of the family.  For many people, going to see family is this dutiful sort thing one has to do.  But when I get together with either my Dad/stepmom/her boys or my mom & three sisters, it’s pure jokes and laughing the whole time.  We party.
  • Livin’ in a free society – this one comes up every year at the dinner table.  I’m very thankful for the fact that I live in a place that is not torn apart by conflict, that is not prone to any kind of earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, or typhoons.  I can walk around the city and pretty much everywhere I’m going to go, I can be relatively certain that nothing is going to explode.  And that no natural disasters are going to occur.  And if something bad does happen, we have free health care to look after me.  We’ve got it pretty good in this country and I wonder how often we appreciate it.
  • New York City – Nothing will cure your blues like taking a few days to do absolutely nothing in New York.  Chicago, I haven’t forgotten about you either.

I’m sure that I will kick myself as the weekend goes on, thinking of things I should have put here.  Maybe I’ll keep adding to the list.  Come check back here throughout the weekend, just in case.

Now you!  What are you thankful for this year?

EDIT: I am thankful that I still get carded at the liquor store.

I am thankful that MP3s have made it so I can get all of the albums I wished I had as a teenager but never owned (hello Only Built For Cuban Linx).

I am thankful for my stepmother’s holiday feast, which I look forward to for weeks.

I am thankful for Mike Tucker who has followed me through every twist and turn and creative tangent and is here commenting on the blog faithfully and diligently almost every time.
