Further thoughts about Jack Layton

You know what I think it is about Jack Layton? I think that he’s the only one who has a vision of what being Canadian means. I think that our leaders tend to be reactive, but Jack Layton is proactive. Jean Chretien was proactive. Bill Clinton was proactive. The more I think about it, the more it seems like that’s the secret of successful political leaders from the left: they are proactive.

The right gets away with being reactive because theirs is a reactive-based ideology, they don’t want things to change. The left is all about changing things. Unfortunately, politicians are just people going to work every day like anyone else. And since most people are lazy, most politicians are lazy. Being proactive is a rare trait, and that’s why when someone like Kennedy, Clinton, or Obama comes along, everyone goes nuts over them.

All we’ve ever had on that level has been Trudeau, and we weren’t even here to enjoy him. We’ve had to get into him after the fact, like the Beatles or Star Wars.

Don’t you think Jack Layton’s got the talent, balls, and charisma to be one of those timeless figures?

i love jack layton. the NDP are liberals are neck and neck in the polls now, with the conservatives loosing steam. one thing we know for sure at this point is that it will be a minority government. harper should have known better, canadians are not usually a right leaning people.

the biggest problem facing the NDP in winning an election is simply that everyone goes “well its not like they’ll win, it’s a vote wasted”. of course, something Dr. Jack is fond of is electoral reform, and if we had us some of that things would be more even. this FPTP thing doesn’t do it for me, not one bit.

I think Jack Layton would be the best man for the job, without a doubt. though i do actually like dion very much and would have no issues with him in office.
one thing is certain, though, we need another trudeau. badly.
