Come see Tintin with me Tomorrow Night

“Tintin and Snowy go Hollywood”

I remember the Tintin books from my elementary school days.  The teachers tried to pretend like different standards applied and the Tintin books didn’t belong in the same pile of reading material as Batman, Spider-Man, or any of my other favorite characters.  But I knew better.  These were comic books, same as the rest of them.  They were just much more artfully crafted and elegantly presented.

I loved these books when I was a kid, and I hated the cartoon show because it was a quickly produced throwaway thing.  It did not convey the elegance and grandeur of the source material.

I was fortunate enough to see a 10-minute preview of the new movie The Adventures of Tintin during TIFF this past season and this movie looks like the most ground-breaking animation since people started knowing who the eff Pixar is.  It totally looks like it’s going to take the newly-developing art of comics-to-screen adaptations to a whole new level.  And if this is successful, we’re one step closer to a Pixar Spider-Man movie.

I’m dying to see this movie and thanks to my very good friends at Paramount Pictures, I’m going to see it almost a month early…

…and I want to take you with me to see Toronto’s first look at the new Tintin movie tomorrow night (November 30) at AMC Dundas Square.

To enter, just leave a comment below telling me which was your favorite Tintin book and why.

I’ll draw five winners late tonight who will each receive a double pass to the advance screening of The Adventures of Tintin, Nov. 30 at AMC Dundas Square.

This giveaway is sponsored by Harth TV and Paramount Pictures.

The Secret of the Unicorn, it was the first one I had as a kid!

Tin Tin in Tibet: devoured it as a kid. So exciting, I mean… the Yeti! Need I say more?

awww… so hard to choose as a lot of them are my favourites.. I read all the Tintin book in French….My favourite Tintin book got to be the Blue Lotus, where he meets for the first time the boy named Chang (based on Herge real life friend).. I can relate to the history of the book and got fascinated with the graphics and details that I would read it over and over again… even fighting with my brothers for the comic book lol :)

The Black Island because the drunken Snowy scene makes me laugh every time :)

In fact, I like the role Snowy plays throughout the story. Tintin Forever!

THIS IS THE HARDEST QUESTION!  That’s like saying choose your favourite “Fear Street” novel – unpossible.  Okay – if I had to, HAD TO choose my favourite it would be….eeeep! (and I had to look up the title cuz I only remembered the cover art) “The Secret of The Unicorn!!!!!!!”  Because at that age I was obsessed with the pirates.  This movie looks so damn good.  Good luck to all!

fav has to be secret of the unicorn (movie is based on it)
    or prisoners of the sun

both are epic adventure tails in exotic locales and lots of
    cultural details.

It’s almost impossible to pick a favourite book – each carries their own secret charm – but I feel that the spirit of is fully recognized in The Calculus Affair, which sees Tintin and Haddock embarking on a hilarious mission to save the Professor’s ultrasonic invention from falling into the wrong hands.

Spoofs from Castafiore, Jolyon Wagg, and the villainous Col. Sponz make this a truly memorable adventure in the fictional land of Syldavia – and the blueprint twist at the end is comic genius.

In close second comes the ‘Seven Crystal Balls/Prisoners of the Sun’ duo, as well as the epic ‘Destination Moon/Explorers on the Moon’ Masterpiece.

This is a tough question! It is between The Blue Lotus and Tintin in Tibet … and I am going to have to go with Tintin in Tibet as my favourite because of the friendship of Tintin and Chang. I guess as a kid I was just drawn and fascinated by comics that had Asian characters.

My favourite is Tintin and The Seven Crystal Balls because my parents used to read that book to me when I was a kid!

  • Genevieve Walker

Flight 714. It had the action, adventure and humor of the older stories combined with Herge’s increasingly sophisticated technique towards the end of his career. Plus, flying saucers. How can you lose?

  • Richard Lee

My favorite Tintin adventure is also the first Tintin book that was read to me during grade 1 and that was Tintin and The seven crystal balls. Although it’s been years since I’ve read it, I clearly recall all the action, mystery and adventure that was so wonderfully portrayed in this book which has given me a great love of adventure novels and movies.

will have to be the crab with the golden claw; one of the better ones in the bunch. it also happens that the movie is based on this comic among others. Favorite character gets introduced in it; Haddock.

Destination Moon is my favourite TinTin book because he faces one of his most epic challenges: getting to the moon.  Growing up and even now as an adult, I’ve always been fascinated by space. This story is such a great example of what it means to dream.

This is A tough question, really hard to choose one!! Well, I always like to see Tintin’s fashion whenever I read this series. Especially love the kilt from ‘The Black Island’.

Got so excited when I visited Belgium after growing up :)

If I had to pick ONE favourite, I would choose Tin Tin and Land of Black Gold. It has all the elements that make the Tin Tin series superb. All of our favourite characters are there (and not so favourite – Muller). There’s also mystery, sabotage, danger, wealth, all with the added bonus of the harsh desert sands. Truly fantastic.

That’s the one my sister got for Christmas the same year that I got Cigars of the Pharaoh

I read the entire Tin Tin Adventures collection out loud to my 10 year old charge until he was 12.  In Tin Tin and his little dog, Snowy, Herge has created the nobility of character we all strive to attain.  Tin Tin’s curiosity in the world around him, his adventure-seeking grit and determination as well as his sheer goodness shine with the light we struggle to attain in our own hectic lives.  The drawings are so consistent from book to book, as well, and not one frame is poorly drawn or coloured.  The collection stands alone in the comic world and I need you to take me to that film!

  • Edward Vasquez

I spent hours watching TinTin on tv when I was small. I could never really get the books. I hope that counts. :D

Tintin in Tibet almost makes me cry. The story is so sweet and tragic. Most of the books in the series are great. @iamgreatTO:twitter

I read Tintin as a child, but I watched the show a whole lot more. I cannot for the life of me remember a single detail of either – except that I loved that damn dog so much and I’m a cat person – but I do know I want to see this film. Badly. Not just because the film looks good, but because I’m dying to see a new film. It’s just that time of year when there is simply no better place than the cinema.

I love “The Seven Crystal Balls”, this is the first book i have ever (SEEN) when i was a kid and don’t know how to Read but then i enjoyed the all pictures in color… and had fun… but guess what..it didn’t gone from my mind until I was able to Read and then I read the book to understand what is going on… and since then i loved reading TIN TIN comics.

I don’t remember reading the books, but I saw the preview for the movie before the Muppets and it looks amazing!! Plus I like you Sean.

I don’t recall the books from my younger years so to remedy that I just purchased 22 out of the 24 books to get myself reacquainted! So far my favourite would have to The Shooting Star simply for the absurdity. Snowy is a bit of a rascal, the Captain continues to be a blistering barnacle shouting whiskey indulger, and our hero manages to get himself out of sticky situations. What’s not to like?!
