Pants on the Ground – The Ultimate Guide

Pants on the Ground

If you are not yet familiar with General Larry Platt and his blockbuster hit Pants on the Ground, you either do not live on the internet or you have been living in a cave for the last week or so. Here is the ultimate guide to the Pants on the Ground phenomenon.

General Larry Platt was the final entrant auditioning for American Idol last week in Atlanta, performing an original number called Pants on the Ground. Have a look:

Over the weekend, General Larry Platt became potentially the fastest-growing Internet sensation ever as his appearance on American Idol was viewed tens of millions of times, and tribute videos sprouted up faster than one could keep track of them. These Pants on the Ground tributes and remixes run the gamut from brilliant to bad.

Even Jimmy Fallon joined the fun with a delightfully authentic Neil Young impression:

And then the General went mainstream with a performance on The View. Which is a good thing because on Idol, you only got a piece of the song. Now you get the whole thing.

And then just for a treat, I found this footage of the General from someone’s camcorder, before he even got in the audition room!

I was a little too late to do a cover of my own on video, but I hope that you enjoy my Gen. Platt tribute portrait at the top of this post!

I would love to see the data on this.  Is Pants on the Ground the fastest-growing internet phenomenon ever?  It has certainly spread more quickly and seemingly bigger than Lazy Sunday.

What do you think?

Is this the video you were telling me about? I like it when you draw then show it going into photoshop and what happens in there, more of that please!

And have you sent him this? He'd love this drawing I KNOW it. FB it, twitter it to him, actually while I was reading your post I saw in my mind a CafePress shop with this on everything… and because you've been so fast to get this up (nice) you could grab him right away and do a profit sharing thing and hmmmmm. Yes yes. Hmmmmm.

The video I was telling you about… like on your blog when you were self-conscious about your video? That video was called Creative Crazies on my Youtube channel.

As for getting this drawing to Gen. Platt, I don't even know how to go about finding him, let alone getting him to take notice. Hopefully it will come up first in Google Image Search!

But you're thinking what I'm thinking about wanting it on shirts. That would be pretty bad ass. I also want to do a set of Internet Meme art cards. This one, Bubb Rubb, Charlie Bit Me, a whole series of 'em!
