Every week (loosely speaking), I take an opportunity to hip you to favorite sites, fascinating resources, and interesting people.
This week, I hit all three of those marks with one website: nubbytwiglet.com
Nubby Twiglet describes herself as a “Portland-based graphic designer and art personality”, but that leaves out so much of why her site is the bomb. She’s basically doing everything I’ve tried to do with my website, all at once, and kicking my ass at all of it. Her website makes a triple play as a personal art showcase & portfolio, information resource for artists and bloggers, and personal site.
Art & Design – Her style is as slick and polished as they come, and her sense of design pervades everything from the article headlines to the styling of her photos to the way she decorates her house. I’ve not seen a style this completely and brilliantly executed since The White Stripes.
Resource for Artists and Bloggers – Between her weekly collection of interesting links & articles she’s found relating to art, lifestyle, business, freelancing, and Internet culture, and her articles about building a portfolio and marketing yourself, her site is a veritable how-to for aspiring creative professionals.
Personal blog – Because of how intertwined her art, her business and her life are, Nubby can post a blog about what she wore (one of her weekly features is actually called What I Wore) without it making the rest of the content less serious, and without the site being about vindicating her cool.

Personal blog, professional site, information resource; you can’t really say which nubbytwiglet.com is because it’s all of them, but also not any one in particular. And she achieves it without her site ever feeling like it’s scattered or unfocused. I don’t know if she was so visionary that she planned her site like this from the start or if she’s so good at branding herself that it evolved into what it is along the way, but Nubby Twiglet is my blogging hero right now. I hadn’t even realized how much I was into it until I saw it in my Top Sites when I open Safari.
