Barry, are you giving me the finger???

Barry is a dear friend and former housemate who has been living abroad for a year and a half. His homecoming party was a perfectly calm and subdues affair, until the sexy nurse showed up looking for him.

Anyone who has known me for any length of time knows that I used to share a house with a dude named Barry. Barry is an Electrical Engineer who has been going for his PhD the whole time I’ve known him.

Barry has been living in The Netherlands for the last year and a half, putting the finishing touches on this thesis. He has just returned to Toronto and yesterday he successfully defended his thesis. Now he has to do one more defense of his thesis in ten months, and then he is Dr. Barry Rawn, Ph.D.

To celebrate being back in town, Barry had a little get-together at a local pub where I was talking to all kinds of scientists about geology, chemicals, video games, and the Internet.

The party was calm like napalm for the first hour – until a sexy nurse came in looking for Barry, demanding that he sit in a chair beside her. He got the most delightfully awkward not-sexy sexy show I have ever seen. She sang three songs to him, all featuring words and phrases related to electrical engineering shoe-horned into the lyrics. It was sweet, and we all loved it (and all wanted a turn in the chair).
