The Link: Dumm Comics

Each Week (or thereabouts), I take a different website from my Links page and single it out for praise in a little feature called The Link.  This week in The Link, I present my favorite webcomics site on the whole Internet: Dumm Comics.

I am a bit of a latecomer to the webcomics scene.  I took a look at a few here and there but never followed any in a big way until I discovered Dumm Comics.  I think I came across it from John K’s blog, somehow discovering Gabe Swarr’s art in the annual 8-bit Festival, and then discovered his comics in amongst the daily Dumm offerings.

Dumm Comics is a collective that features six different regular features: a weekly strip by a different creator each day from Monday to Friday, and then guest strips on the weekend (guest strips are on hiatus for the summer, instead running another weekly strip).  All of them have a background in animation, but their comics never look like a class project the way so many comics by animators do.

If you were going to twist my arm and make me pick a favorite, I would probably have to say Skadi, the Wednesday feature.  The characters are all way over the top, the colors are unbelievable, and the humor is always perfect.  I have never once seen the Skadi creators resort to scatalogical or any other kind of cop-out humor.  It’s banging every single time out.

I have studied Dumm Comics and I continue to take a lot from it when doing my own comics.  Have a read!!!
