I am drawing a single-page comic strip and it has been driving me crazy.
First it took me forever just to come up with an idea. I am used to coming up with longer stories. Gags that can be squeezed into a single page are not my forte, which is a big part of the reason I took on this project. I figured I could use the challenge.
I got an idea last week, let it roll around for a few days, wrote it earlier this week, and put pen to paper yesterday at about 1 PM. Now it’s a little after 9 PM the next day. It should not take that long to draw a page of comics.
“So what happened?”
Well I learned the hard way that the super-smooth illustration boards are not for me. I used to like that super-slick surface but I have been drawing on laser photocopy paper for a while now and I’m used to that tooth. I don’t have the control on the super-smooth illustration board and I felt like I was skating all over the place.
“But why did it take so long?”
It took so long because not only was it hard to draw on, it was killing my markers! I got half way down the page and started having a hard time making lines! I had to buy new markers today! And then had to draw most of the page all over again! What a nightmare!
But at least doing the letters for the title was fun, like doing my titles always are.
