Comics in Color is The Way to Go

Over the last week or so I have started coloring the pages for SuperParty.  It has been a long-standing dream of mine to do my comics in color (that’s verily why I didn’t release any comics for over two years).  I used to really like my coloring but then I got self-conscious about it, like I needed to know about color theory or something.  But now I am back in the groove, just winging it and going by instinct.  See the B&W panel above, and the colored panel below.

I’ve got a bunch of pages colored now, snuck in during waits and downtimes.  The wonders of having a laptop!  I watched my bud Steve Manale color an illustration the other night and that got me pumped and feeling confident.  Thanks, Steve!

Speaking of Steve, he has recently completed the entire run of his comic strip SUPER SLACKERS, a ridiculously fun and clever all-ages strip. Read the whole thing for free at superslackers.com.

I’ve got his Super Slackers book! Do you?

well if you know some color short cuts and tricks let me know!
  • Just this: close your shapes when you're drawing!! You will save yourself massive amounts of time 'isolating flats' if you can just run around with the paint bucket tool. Beyond that, copy from stuff you really like.
